The manufacturer of refractory bricks for lime kilns will provide you with a detailed explanation - what is the difference between high alumina bricks and clay bricks?
A customer asked, what is the difference between high alumina bricks and clay bricks? Today, let's talk about the differences between them?
1、 Differences in content
High alumina brick is a refractory material product with an Al2O3 content of over 48%. It is mainly made of high alumina bauxite clinker, soft clay and waste paper liquid as binders, and is made of mud with a multi-level particle ratio. It is formed under high pressure, dried, and fired at high temperature. High alumina bricks can be divided into four grades based on the Al2O3 content: special grade high alumina bricks, first grade high alumina bricks, second grade high alumina bricks, and third grade high alumina bricks. Special grade high alumina bricks have an Al2O3 content of no less than 80%, first grade high alumina bricks have an Al2O3 content of no less than 75%, second grade high alumina bricks have an Al2O3 content of no less than 65%, and third grade high alumina bricks have an Al2O3 content of no less than 55%.
Clay bricks are refractory products made from clay clinker as aggregate and refractory clay as binder, with an Al2O3 content of 30-48%. Clay bricks are the most widely used and oldest refractory materials, and the raw materials used to make clay bricks are clay minerals. Natural refractory clay can generally be divided into soft clay and hard clay. In the production process of refractory materials, the former has good plasticity and is easy to sinter after adding water, and is often used as a binder; The latter are mostly used as clinker after calcination.
2、 Different characteristics
High alumina bricks belong to neutral refractory materials
1. High fire resistance. The fire resistance of high alumina bricks is higher than that of clay bricks and semi silica bricks, reaching 1750-1790 degrees, and belongs to the category of advanced refractory materials.
2. Load softening temperature. Due to the high content of Al2O3 and low impurities in high alumina products, which result in the formation of less fusible glass bodies, the load softening temperature is higher than that of clay bricks. The load softening temperature of high alumina products is generally above 1420-1550 degrees Celsius. However, due to the lack of network structure formed by the crystallization of mullite, the load softening temperature is still not as high as that of silica bricks.
3. Slag resistance. High alumina bricks contain more Al2O3, which is close to neutral refractory materials and can resist the erosion of acidic and alkaline slag. Due to the presence of silicon oxide, their ability to resist alkaline slag is weaker than that of acid resistant slag.
4. Chemical resistance. High alumina refractory products have good resistance to acid or alkaline slag, corrosion of molten metal, oxidation and reduction reactions, and increase with the increase of Al2O3 content and the decrease of harmful impurity content.
Clay bricks mainly belong to weakly acidic refractory materials
The fire resistance is 1690 ℃, which increases with the increase of SiO2 content, so it is often used as a lining material for acidic kilns. According to volume density, it can be further divided into ordinary clay bricks, low porosity clay bricks, and low creep clay bricks.
3、 Common ground between high alumina bricks and clay bricks:
The production process is basically the same, with a standard size of 230 * 114 * 65. Different contents of refractory bricks can be customized according to the drawings.
The prices of clay bricks and high alumina bricks vary greatly. Before purchasing, please confirm the material of the refractory bricks you need. The prices of refractory bricks of different materials also vary.
